Which of How's Bentley Services are best for you?
It's tough for anyone to predict how much professional support will be necessary for you to reach your individual goals, especially before teaching ever begins! Our services are arranged so that you can personalize your experience by choosing Upgrades - after you begin. In most cases, you have up to 30 days to select Upgrades that best match your goals!

Here are a few questions to help you choose the initial service best for you.

  1. Do you need behavioral services, group educational services or training services?
    1. Behavioral services are for solving behavior problems like aggression, fear, separation anxiety, noise phobia, compulsive behavior disorders (tail chasing, eating nonfood items, self injury), et cetera. If your dog has any of these issues or if your veterinarian has prescribed medications for behavior, you should select from our Problem Behavior Services. Please CLICK HERE to go to question D if you want Problem Behavior Services.
    2. How's Bentley offers educational lectures and workshops with topics suitable for schools, families, churches, veterinary clinics, civic organizations, government agencies, businesses, universities, breeders, law enforcement agencies, shelters, rescue organizations, training clubs and more. Please CLICK HERE to learn more about our Group Educational Services.
    3. Training services are for teaching basic or advanced obedience commands, tricks, service tasks or for solving common, normal problems such as housetraining, jumping up, pulling on the leash, play-biting, running away, bolting out the door, et cetera. If this describes your needs, please continue to question B.

  2. Do you want group or In-home, private services?
    1. Group services are a good choice for people with dogs that are not "out of control" around other dogs and other people. Group classes are good for people that learn well in a group setting. Please CLICK HERE to learn more about our Group Training Services.
    2. In-home, private services are just that, in your home and private! The time spent with our instructor is all about you, your dog, your needs, your desires and your goals. People with dogs that are reactive around other people and dogs should select private services. People who learn better in a one-on-one setting should select private services. Please continue to question C if you want private training services.

  3. Do you want to learn how to teach your dog to be a polite member of the family or do you just want dog-friendly instructions for teaching one or two behaviors?
    1. Do you want to get started teaching basic manners and obedience?
    2. Do you want to learn about housetraining, play-biting, jumping up, pulling on the leash, et cetera?
    3. Do you live with a dog that knows what you want but ignores your commands?
    4. Would you like to learn how to teach your dog several basic commands like down, stay, go-to-place, heel, sit, fetch, roll over, shake, et cetera?
    5. Would you eventually like to teach your dog advanced commands, complex behaviors, tricks or service tasks?
    6. If you answered yes to any of these questions, the best service for you is a Beginnings Workshop! CLICK HERE to learn more about our Beginnings Workshop

    7. If you answered no to most of the questions but you are interested in learning dog-friendly steps for teaching your dog only one or two behaviors or you would like a very short introduction to dog-friendly training methods, then our Bentley-Service Call may be a better choice for you.

  4. Is your dog's problem behavior non-aggressive or aggressive?
    1. Some common non-aggressive problems are separation anxiety, inappropriate house-soiling, fearful behavior (without growls, snarls, snaps, bites, excessive barking or lunging), noise phobias, compulsive behavior disorders, pica (ingesting nonfood items), self injury and destruction of property. It's not uncommon for veterinarians to prescribe medication for these behaviors These problems can be very serious and life threatening; however the threats usually do not include direct injury to people or other companion animals as a result of aggressive behaviors. Some people choose to "live with" and manage these problems because there are no immediate dangers of injuries to people, the behaviors don't occur every day, people have tried to help and failed, or the people have no idea that help is available. It's important to note that although there may be little threat to external injuries, the affected animals are at risk for internal health problems because of the constant activation of their immune systems, which contributes constant stress on their bodies. The best plans for helping these dogs involve changing the dog's perception of the environment through a behavior modification plan. If your dog's problems fall in the non-aggressive category, even if you've tried many other methods without success, we can help - please select How's Bentley In-home Behavior Consultation.
    2. Dogs that growl, snarl, bark excessively, snap, lunge or bite have problems related to fear and/or aggression. These problems are serious and life threatening, not only for the dogs but for other animals and people. Due to the shorted lives of aggressive dogs (for obvious reasons) it is important to address these problems with high levels of commitment. If your dog's problem is aggression, please visit How's Bentley Policy for Treating Aggressive Dogs.
