Missing the opportunity to socialize your very young pup (sensitive period of socialization is from 3 to 12 weeks old) has been scientifically proven to place your pup at risk for developing aggressive or fearful behaviors. Bentley Beginnings workshop focuses on socialization, house training, play-biting, teaching sit and more. In addition, our counselor will give the family a kind, dog-friendly set of rules to follow that will teach the pup how to interact with humans. 2. BN1120 - Bentley Be Nice - for pups 4 to 8 months old
Pups often start exhibiting learned, unwanted behaviors during a period from 4 to 8 months and older pups that still exhibit play biting, jumping up, house training mistakes and attention-seeking behaviors are perfecting undesirable skills! Families should learn how to reduce these behaviors now - before they become more entrenched in the dog's behavioral repertoire! Bentley-Be-Nice workshop focuses on teaching families how dogs learn and how best to teach them, how to reduce normal unwanted behaviors, and how to use dog-friendly communication and teaching methods to raise a well-mannered pup. Bentley-Be-Nice Manners Workshop packet includes a short introduction to the ABCs of behavior, No-Jumping, How to Teach Your Dog Not To Come, Kids and Dogs, and more. Precision Clicker Training Course is for serious hobbyists, canine competitors, perfectionists, and individuals who want to learn how to use the proven scientific principles underlying clicker-training methods. Teaching precise behaviors is fun and easy once you understand how to apply positive reinforcement with a clicker and rewards. Clicker training is a method of communicating with animals by using a small noise-making device to "mark" behaviors. Professional trainers use clicker methods to teach Hollywood animal stars, marine mammals, service dogs, horses, cats, birds, well-behaved companion animals and more. Once you gain a comprehensive understanding of the principles of operant conditioning and the timing skills to use a clicker, your imagination and your dog's physical abilities are your only barriers.

Pups and dogs of all ages need social interaction with other dogs and people, unfortunately close physical and social interactions with other dogs and people are relatively non-existent in group obedience courses. Puppy classes with scheduled interactions between the puppies and activities such as "pass the peaceful puppy" provide safe, healthy opportunities for young puppies to interact with other puppies and people. How's Bentley does not currently offer a puppy class. Dogs Rule Day Care and School has a Bentley Approved puppy class for young pups that have received at least three series of initial vaccinations for puppies.

If providing your adolescent or adult dog (4 months and older) with opportunities to physically interact with strangers and strange dogs is your goal, consider sending your dog to a dog day care such as Dogs Rule where professional dog wranglers supervise the play! Take your young pup on regular outings to safe places where he or she can meet a variety of people and vaccinated animals. Veterinary clinics, your workplace or neighbors' homes, are likely to be safe areas for your young unvaccinated pup. Socialization is extremely important especially for dogs 12 weeks and younger.
